Absence Policy
Rehearsal Attendance
All rehearsals scheduled outside of the school day (Band Camp, Wednesday evenings, etc.) are mandatory. Any rehearsal related absence must be reported BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN at least 2 weeks prior to the rehearsal.
Performance Attendance
Performances are the cumulative presentation and assessment of our rehearsals for a marking period/semester. All performances are mandatory with RARE exception, deemed excusable on an individual basis. See the “Performance Attendance” category beneath “Grading Policy” for more information on Performance Attendance and make-up assignment options. Any performance related absence must be reported BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN at least 30 DAYS prior to the performance and consideration over excuse will be determined by the instructor.
Formal performances (football games, parades, marching/concert band festivals, concerts) are the most important cumulative goal of our class. Performance grades are based on attendance and uniform (all appropriate components of marching or concert uniform).
All performances are mandatory and count towards the student’s final grade. There are only very rare exceptions in which an absence is deemed excusable in a performance situation. It is impossible to recreate the educational value of a live performance. However, in the event that a conflict does occur and a student misses a performance for any reason, they should plan to use the “Alternative/Make-Up Credit” options in order to earn back the loss of points for their performance grade.
Note: If a performance is missed for an unexcused reason, the result will be a failing grade – no exceptions.
